It's become a bit of a tradition

I'm blessed beyond measure! We have 2 sons, 2 precious daughters-in-love and 12 grands. Yes, 12!!!

One son and family live nearby and one son and family live across the US. The son that lives nearby has 4 daughters and 3 sons. When we travel west, I try to bring a project I can work on with that granddaughter as she enjoys handcrafts. One of our first projects was a jelly roll race.

With the granddaughters who live nearby we've started the tradition of making a quilt together when they turn 12.

It actually began when the grands who live nearby all "helped" me sew a quilt for their mom's brother and wife who were expecting their first. All except for the littlest sewed at least one seam. They were so excited to give it and began asking if we could do that again.

The oldest granddaughter who lives nearby made a quilt from a layer cake that had horses (her passion) and now the 2nd oldest girl has sewn hers. A football themed quilt (Yep. Her passion 🙂) I've got ideas and a color scheme for the next granddaughter who turns 12 next spring. I'll be on the lookout for that fabric.

I do enjoy being able to share my knowledge and love for quilting, but most of all I love the one-on-one time it affords me with each granddaughter.

When I picked up the grand with whom I was  currently sewing, I mentioned to her brother that we haven't gotten together to make his quilt yet. He just rolled his teenage eyes at me. 🤣 Is that a no???
