It's coming along...

This was a project I started when at a quilting retreat with friends in January.

I'm making two twin-ish sized quilts for the bunk bed guest room. Measuring the beds, I realized I didn't want full twin sized quilts. I would rather the quilts just hang over the sides and the edges a few inches rather than so long I have to tuck them in any time I remake the beds. Anyone with bunk beds knows why 😉

I measured again yesterday and have decided 4 blocks by 7 blocks will be perfect.

I'm trying to complete one block each day (What you see is 4 blocks across). I had sewn 4 blocks incorrectly, so they have been picked apart and are waiting for their turn to be sewn. I have 2 more blocks cut out and waiting on a design board. So 12 out of 28 done.

But I've been derailed some days. I'm part of a small quilting group that makes donation quilts. Previously the donation quilts were primarily made and quilted by 4 ladies while the rest contributed in other ways. But this year brought some large changes. Two ladies moved away. One died and one other no longer has any transportation options.  I was a part of another small group that made Project Linus quilts. We decided to join groups so that we had more ladies who could make quilt tops. But initially I was the only quilter.

So this past week, I needed to quilt 2 quilts. Somehow I only remembered to photograph one. This quilt had been started by someone else and I had finished most of the top at the retreat.

However, we were able to offer a series of classes on how to quilt and had 12 come and 8 look like they will be making quilt tops for our group!! This past week,  I taught a gal the basics of quilting with a walking foot and she already quilted her top! She is an accomplished seamstress, so I knew it would not be a steep learning curve for her.

And while previously all the donated quilts had come from the quilters own stash, we have received a HUGE donation of quality quilting fabrics from many different sources. Those of us who have quilted for awhile pulled together kits using basic patterns and donated fabrics. I believe we have 15 available at the moment. But it looks like we have about 8 quilts finished, so many of those new quilters may grab another kit and start again!

We meet on Tuesday this week. If I come home with a number of quilt tops to quilt, these bunk bed quilts may not grow any more blocks. But they will get done. And of course, there are always squirrels that start making noise about other projects...

Such a lovely idea to group together to make charity quilts! Seems like you're getting things sorted out, and with new quilters joining the group things will start hoppin'! Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.
