He Giveth More Grace

It's a hymn I haven't heard in quite some time, although it is a hymn that was frequently sung when I was a child. The words stuck me anew.
"He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater, He sendeth more strength when the labors increase; To added affiction He addeth His mercy, To multiplied trials, His multiplied peace.  His love has no limits, His grace has no measure, His power has no boundary known unto men; For out of His infinite riches in Jesus, He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again." (Written by Annie Flint)   (italics mine)
It was that line "For out of His infinite riches in Jesus" that really got me pondering.  Infinite riches in Jesus. Can I even imagine that?  Riches beyond counting.

Infinite is a concept I spend quite a bit of time considering and discussing as a math teacher.  I am fascinated by it.  But when you put the word riches with it, it is way beyond my even my imagination.  Infinite riches, how can that be?  But God? He has no limit.  There is not an end to His grace.  There is not an end to any aspect of what He owns or who He is.  Endless grace.  Endless love.  Endless mercy.  Endless power.

In my finite mind, I get a glimpse of infinite when I consider numbers.  But it really is not much more than a glimpse.  I can see and understand that numbers can get infinitely larger or smaller.  But in "real life" infinite anything is truly beyond my understanding.

And yet scripture makes it so very clear that we are the recipients of the riches (beyond measure!) of His grace.  We who were dead in our sins.  We who rebelled against His plan.  We who said that we desired to follow our desires, not His.  We who are of unclean lips.  We who dwell among a people of unclean lips.  We who are recipients of His grace while we were yet sinners.

His grace has no measure.  He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again.
Praise Him for His grace extended to me and you.

I added that hymn to my personal hymnal.  But that's another post ;-)
