Tag teaming

I was sick last week with a cold. I didn't run a fever, but had a cough, runny nose and that "just feeling lousy" feeling. I finally began feeling better Saturday and on Sunday was able to put in a "full day." Bob left for Europe that afternoon and for some reason, I wasn't able to sleep that night. The last time I looked at the clock it was 2:30 a.m. Monday morning. I had a 9:00 a.m. appointment, so I didn't get much sleep that night. Unfortunately, I didn't sleep well on Monday night either and again had a morning appointment. But Wednesday morning I didn't have an appointment. I went to bed around normal time (11 p.m.) and fell right asleep.

But then I woke, I looked at the clock, and groaned. It was only 5 a.m. I did not have an appointment, so I could have slept in, but here I was awake after only six hours. Initially, I was frustrated, but then I said, "Okay, God, who are you waking me to pray for?" Immediately, Steven and Dawn's name came to mind and so I began to pray.

Dawn had been given a couple different due dates, but the 17th of October had been the most recent, and on that day, Steven had begun to be sick. Fever, congestion, cough. They requested prayer. Prayer that he would recover so that he could provide the necessary support that Dawn would need, prayer that Dawn would stay healthy, and prayer that Judah would stay healthy.

And so to that end I prayed. I fell back asleep sometime after 6 and was just waking up around 8 when the phone rang. It was Steven. They were planning on leaving for the birthing center at 8:30 our time. Dawn had been in labor through the night, but had allowed Steven to rest through much of her early morning labor.

When talking with the other soon-to-be-grandma this morning, I learned that she normally does not wake up in the night, but did last night. She was up praying for them until about 5. I guess we were tag teaming in prayer, and didn't even know it.

What an awesome God we serve. None of our circumstances catch Him unaware. He knows what is coming today, tomorrow and beyond. Not only are all things in His control, He graciously allows us the privilege of serving through praying. I had no idea Dawn was in labor, but I am grateful that I was able to assist from afar by bringing her name before the throne of grace.

I started quite late into my parenting, but began a book to record God's faithfulness in our lives. Recording those times when we clearly saw Him working. It is for that purpose that I record this event. Judah's days have been planned before the foundation of the earth. What a joy to see God's hand, even in waking up Grandmas to pray.

Judah arrived at 11:32 Pacific time weighing 9 lbs, 4 oz. and 21 inches long. I had been saying we were looking forward to "Little Judah's arrival." I guess I had better drop the little! Dawn says he has big hands and feet and quite a bit of dark hair. We think he's a cutie.

Something tells me I'll have a few posts about this little one. Did I say little again?
