What a week!
After arriving Wednesday evening in NC, it seemed like everything began to happen quickly. It started off with getting the car inspected, lunch with Beth, some "power shopping" at Office Max, JoAnn Fabrics, and my favorite French boutique, Target.
Jenn's family began arriving on Saturday evening and the final wedding preparations began. Of course that included getting Jenn's things moved over to Joel's place, finding a home for Toona, making meals, getting the programs put together, decorating the gym and the chapel and of course, some time for games. It was a real joy to be able to have Jenn's parents and her brother stay in our home, or should I say, Dawn and Steven's home! And to have Jenn's sisters, as well as brother-in-law and future brother-in-law at our for meals so that we could get to know them as well.
Although the time was busy, we were able to get to know one another better. Jenn's mom and I had been corresponding via facebook for some time, so she had already become a friend, but it was nice to be able to share this special event in the lives of our children together. After church on Sunday we enjoyed brunch between services at the senior Thimsen home.
Monday dawned bright and warm, and the Wetzels were able to spend a family day enjoying Duke and the Duke Gardens. I was able to get a few things that I needed and begin doing some cooking so that the upcoming week would be less stressful. Tuesday looked to be a the day free from rain, so we moved most of Jenn's things into what would soon become Joel and Jenn's home.
Bob was able to join us a few hours early, as he was able to catch the earlier flight out of JFK. It was wonderful to have him in town early enough to have dinner and spend the evening together.
Wednesday was tux pick-up, lunch with Steven and Justin, run some errands and then was an evening of just Steven, Dawn, Joel and Bob and me for dinner, a quiet interlude in the midst of a busy week.
Thursday was set aside to decorate the gym for the reception and have the whole group over to our house for dinner and Friday set aside was to finish the decorations in the chapel, have the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. Linda and Jonathan arrived late Thursday evening and helped Grandma and Grandpa Thimsen make sure the clubhouse was ready for the rehearsal dinner. Daniel arrived Friday afternoon and Uncle Andy, Aunt Junie, Uncle Phil and Aunt Birgie arrived on Satuday.
Of course, Saturday was THE day. Whew what a week. But amid all the hecticness, all the things that we wanted to make sure got taken care of, all the little details that we didn't want to be overlooked, was a sense of joy and contentment. Joy in what God had done in each of their lives. Joy in His bringing them together. Joy in adding yet another wonderful daughter to our family. Contentment in the fact that the changes that were happening were for the best. Contentment that yet another phase of life was being moved into in the life of our son.
