After having an early morning wedding for Steven and Dawn, it seemed very different to have the day spread out before us with the wedding not coming until evening. But it managed to be a full day! Sheril and Bob had initially planned to be around our place for much of the morning, but during the night, Sheril realized that it probably was best if they got up and were ready to leave for the day in the morning, and so that is what they did. "My Bob" and my brother took the opportunity to take a long run together on the American Tobacco Trail.
Can you believe how similar Sheril's and my dresses were? We both had purchased dresses prior to Joel and Jenn's engagements. (Just wanting to plan ahead! It had been so hard trying to buy a dress when not being in the states!!) Jenn had seen the one her mom had purchased. I had actually purchased 3 dresses and she chose the one I wore. It looked like Sheril and I had gone out shopping together.

Originally Jenn had considered an outdoor wedding in Colonial's Courtyard. As it turned out, that would have added much last minute craziness to the day, as it was obvious early on that the rain would arrive later in the day and it did. But even the rain did not deter outside pictures. Although I was busy taking care of other details, I did see a few of these fun shots being taken. One of Joel and Jenn's wedding gifts, large white towels that were wrapped only with a large bow were put to good use drying off the bride and her attendants after they came back inside. Between the towels and a hairdryer that was rounded up, all was well! Jenn maintained such a great attitude; it's a characteristic that I've seen her demonstrate over and over. Even as they had to go to
Plan B for pictures, Jenn was able to smile and truly
enjoy the day.
And the wedding itself was very beautiful. Jenn and Joel's personalities shown through, and it brought honor and glory to the Lord in very unique ways. Pastor Sandberg, the college pastor, assisted Jenn's Dad is doing the ceremony. For me it brought back memories of my own father doing our ceremony. It is very special for a daughter to have a pastor-father perform her ceremony. Jenn's Dad shared many memories of Jenn growing up, which were very precious.
Jenn made her bridal veil. She did something which I hope other young woman consider. She took both her mom's veil and my veil and used the lace edges off of each to create her own veil. The lace edging the shorter veil (which was her blusher) is from her mom's veil and the lace edging the longer veil is from my veil. What a beautiful picture of showing the joining of two families.
This beautiful cake was a creation by Jenn, the week of the wedding. Whew! One brave and talented woman.
Because it was an evening wedding, the reception was a simple affair, cake and ice cream. You don't have to be around Joel or Jenn very long to know that they both have a great affinity to ice cream. And with so many middle school, high school and college kids in attendance, the ice cream sundaes were a big hit.

Bride and groom, amid a flurry of white rose petals.
Off to Vail, Colorado for a week of snowboarding.
Or at least that was the plan. ;-)
Ah. But that's another blog post!

My wife and I were married by my pastor/father and it really is special when that happens. Of course, during the ceremony my father mentioned some memories about me and some memories about my wife Kim. He did fine talking about me, but when he began to talk about watching Kim grow up from childhood into the woman she became his voice cracked and he began to tear up.
We've laughed about that ever since. I think he was just glad to get me out of the house.
Congratulations.
