She Said YES!

I guess I need to start this blog by letting you know how we first met Jenn. Labor Day 2007 was 3 days before we were moving to Switzerland. A few weeks before, Joel asked if it would be okay for him to host a college event at the house that day. Never a problem, our house is always open. But when I asked Joel if he needed my help with food prep or purchase he said "Oh no, Jenn's got that all organized."

Well, I must admit my "mom ears" really perked up. I'd heard the name "Jenn" a few times at this point, but very "off the cuff." I was beginning to wonder if Joel was in the "early stages" of being interested in this young lady. Bob thought I was reading way too much into it, but I suggested that he pay close attention when Jenn arrived, because we wouldn't have many opportunities to interact with her.

That night Bob was very impressed because Jenn brought a homemade Lemon Chiffon Pie. Lemon anything are favorites of Bob and Joel, but a pie is at the top of the list. No problem, Jenn will definitely be remembered!

Fast forward to late spring of 2008. We were trying to plan for a family holiday in the Alps and needed to know how large of a place to reserve. Joel was unsure whether he had the time or the money to come again, after having visited in January. We asked that if he was "at all serious" about Jenn that they come (Dad would help with the cost) because we would really like to get to know her if he was. The ticket was booked a few days later.

Fast forward again. December 22, 2008. While at the Biltmore, Joel asked Jenn to be his wife and she said yes. We're so glad! Now that's the really short version of the proposal, you'll have to contact Jenn to get the "rest of the story," but let's just say the longer version includes a day spent in the grounds at the Biltmore in Ashville, flowers delivered to their dinner table, and a ring offered while in among the Christmas trees outside the home itself. It's a great story!

I began praying for Joel and Steven's wives from the time the boys were babies. I am so grateful for the way that the Lord has answered that prayer.
