Not sure what to entitle this one.....
I had hoped to get a bit of blogging done once I returned to Switzerland. After all, I had a graduation, a wedding, another engagement, Christmas and a wedding all in the last month. Plus I still have things from last year that I am determined are going to make it onto this blog. But of course, life continues to happen while I'm trying to "get caught up." And this is one of those things.
Also, I've procrastinated about starting this. Mainly because the computer I use has been sounding like it was dying and so I have been logging on VERY sparingly, trying to make sure that it lasts. The thought of functioning without access to a computer is more scary than any movie Hollywood could produce. ;-)
I guess I could entitle this blog, How to Win Friends or maybe Things to Avoid saying or maybe How to Make Someone's Day.
I am very privileged to have made some dear friends, even in the short amount of time since we've moved to Switzerland. The women who are a part of my Thursday Bible study are very dear to my heart. It has been a real joy to me to be able to study God's Word with women from Korea, Singapore, China, Argentina, Switzerland, South Africa, Ireland, UK, Armenia, and even the good old, US of A. Coming from so many different backgrounds adds such a depth to our studies.
But, sometimes I think things are said that come out sounding different than people actually mean. Even though English is the language of our study and teaching, it is not the first language for many. And so there are often times where we stop and discuss what would be an easily understood word to a native English speaker, where it is difficult for someone for whom English is not their first (or even second!) language.
At least, I'm hoping that's what happened this week. I sent a photo from the wedding to a couple ladies and I know that at least one of them shared it with others from the class, one of whom mentioned that she saw the photo I had emailed. Her comment has kept me laughing and definitely keeps me humble. She commented on how beautiful I looked in the the photo and that she didn't recognize me.
So how would you responded? I did just as Justin would, "smile and nod."
