Klöntalersee
After 12 days of mostly clouds and rain while the Stoltzfus family were here, Saturday looked like it might be a nice day. There is a wonderful website that gives great information on many day hikes in Switzerland and so after consulting it, I suggested we take the loop hike out of the town Glarus that includes Klöntalersee, a mountain peak (where, of course, there is a restaurant. One of my favorite things about hiking in Switzerland has become walking through cow pastures. The hills truly are alive with the sound of music. (Of course one does have to be careful not to step into the pies that are scattered all over.) But the sight of happy cows pasturing on lush emerald fields with a backdrop of the Alps, alpine flowers and high meadow huts will always be one of great beauty to me. (I must admit that I am often looking for Goat Peter and have yet to see him or Heidi. Although we did met a non-English speaking Swiss woman while on this hike, that clarified for us that we were heading in the
We enjoyed lunch on a bench overlooking the lake and then enjoyed our "regular" at the mountain top (pommes frites mit zwei espresso.) Although we encountered a few sprinkles after leaving the top, it never truly rained, at least not on the side of the mountain we were on. Always a plus.
Another wonderful Saturday in the Alps. I'm wondering if in the new earth there will be Alps. Certainly seems like heaven to me.
