I'm finally back online and able to post! I'll post quite a few...so take your time!!
Our little village, which is just a few homes

, old and new, apartment buildings, a barn scattered here and there and a hair salon (They speak enough English to get a haircut!!) is a ten minute walk to the larger village of Neerach, which has the post office, small grocery store (think size of a gas station "mini-mart,") bakery, pizzeria, furniture store and a bike stop.
This house, down the street from us indicates that it was built in 1808! What we have really appreciated is that even the new apartment buildings across the street have maintained the look of this type of

architecture. It makes for a very quaint town, which is pictured on the left. You may want to click on it to get an enlarged view. For those of you who have been to Lima, Riedt is smaller. I know, hard to believe, but true. This shot was taken from a road adjacent to the bird sanctuary which is near us. We enjoyed an afternoon watching some of the area birds in one of the "hides" that has been built in this sanctuary. We especially enjoyed watching the little Kingfisher flit around the marshlands. On my walks, I've also see many storks, which greatly surprised me the first time. And of course, because this is farmland, there are many predatory birds keeping a reign on the mice population. I have also enjoyed the red kite, similar in size to a red-tailed hawk. They are always in the farm fields near the house, often in fairly large groups. They are able to seemingly float, motionless in the air for a long time.
