Today's quote....

I recognized an old friend yesterday while on facebook. Well, actually the "little brother" of my best friend when I was in elementary school. I don't know if you are on facebook, but when I "make" a new friend, I love to read their Info tab where they list their interests, activities, favorite books, TV shows and movies as well as favorite quotes. And one of Larry's quotes made me laugh, out loud.

"The good Christian should beware of mathematicians, and all those who make empty prophecies. The danger already exists that the mathematicians have made a covenant with the devil to darken the spirit and to confine man in the bonds of Hell." - St Augustine

The fact that Larry included this in his favorite quotes gives me a clue as to why Larry is a high school history teacher and not a high school mathematics teacher. Seems like most people either love mathematics or hate it. Not many people are ambivalent. When people learn that I taught high school mathematics in the states the response is often comical. They often look at me like I am an alien from another planet or treat me like I'm a very strange being. I don't know if they haven't meet someone who likes mathematics before or just not a woman who likes math.

We are each truly unique, are we not? Each of us created with our own interests, our own likes and dislikes, our own talents, our own desires , even our own unique fingerprints. I have had the opportunity to go shopping with two different friends recently. It was fun to watch how each one gravitated toward things that were in colors they like. One to red things. One to green things. (Me? Anything in the pink, purple, blue range.)

Knit together in our mother's womb.
Chosen before the foundations of the earth.
Ones whom God has created for good works, which God has prepared beforehand for us.
Whether we love or hate mathematics, we are truly "fearfully and wonderfully made."
May we praise Him.

Pam, I got on your blog to see if there was any news about the big wedding and started reading back, as I hadn't checked things out in quite awhile (apparently). How amazed I was to realize you were referencing my brother here, and even moreso to see myself referred to as your best friend in elementary school! The feeling is mutual. Since I'm not very technologically savvy, all this web stuff is still rather intimidating, but Jamie has a Facebook now, as do the 3 oldest girls. Life is very hectic, but I think of you often. It looks like I won't make it to Switz., but I hope to see you in NC before too many more years pass. God bless. Anne

It's a flimsie!!

 It is finally completed. Well, the top is. I frequently make a pieced back, but as I am considering hand quilting this one, I decided to buy a lovely dark blue wide back which will be the back as well as the binding.  Sorry for the distortions in this photo. I was so excited to have it completed, I didn't take care with HOW the photo looked.  This has been a leader/ender project for over 2 years. A few times, I worked on a block, making it a priority, but mostly it truly was a leader and ender project.  For my reference 😊: Includes 1,176 half square triangles (!!!), 168 blue squares and 168 white on white squares (mostly along with a smidge of low volume prints).  The beauty of this quilt is that it is made up of a single 9 patch block that is simply turned in various directions and joined into a large 16 patch that measures around 24" square!! Slow and steady...

 It may not win any race, but it will make progress on the quilt(s). The wedding quilt was finished, washed and gifted. We're not in town for the wedding, so I was glad to get it done before and gift it to the bride.   I finished quilting the 2 quilts for our group donations that I will pass onto someone else to add our label and finish the binding. No photos.  I had the opportunity to help a gal who is new to sewing begin her first quilt. I was able to finish a couple more blocks for the bunk bed quilt while she was sewing. No photos (Hmmm. I see a pattern. 😆) Since my last post, I was able to finish up the red portions of the Crimson Christmas. It's so fun to see it grow!! This week was also a sew day with friends. Always fun and productive! I worked on the mauve potion of the Crimson Christmas quilt.  There was a section mis-sewn, but some picking took place and finished up.  And then at home, I was able to work the next few steps:  I've really enj...

What's on my design wall, sort of

 My main project at the moment is a wedding present. I'm not a huge fan of Kaffe fabrics, but this collection made the most sense given the favorite colors of the bride and groom. This was the quilt before I quilted it. I'm currently attaching the last side of the binding.  I have 2 quilts that need to be quilted for my sewing group. One is out to be ironed before basted. No photo. The wedding quilt has been my priority, so other quilt projects are taking a back seat  But, the friend with whom I'm meeting with to work on the Crimson Christmas quilt came by last week and we began cutting the next section. I've gotten this far. It's coming together quite easily, although not quickly. We did run into a bit of an issue. We bought this as a kit and for one color we weren't given enough fabric. The shop cut another piece, but it was too small! It would only have worked if you hadn't cut for that step yet. However, we figured out a work around. Whew! The beginning ...
